Although I generally liked this special showing, I found it to be, well, not that special. Some things were good, but this could use another edit. [Evily thinking of breaking into the editing room, finding everything that didn't make it into this show, and redoing it myself. Ah yes, I can see the storyboard now...:) ] Quite similar to the two "Secrets of the X-Files," "Inside the X-Files" had, instead of mainly voiceovers and summary clips, interviews, bloopers, never before seen out takes of scenes, and a look at the movie due out this summer. And let us not forget the "Mulder, FBI." "Are you suggesting?" Hello, we've long ago spotted this trend. Of course, some of it was summary and characterization, but what made it different and better than the Secrets, is that Chris Carter, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and other main actors were summarizing the clips, giving a more personal, believable summary. At least you know CC wouldn't say something that he didn't believe was true. The interviewed gave insights into their thoughts. This also confirmed what many have suspected of the plotlines, about different truths and connections. However, to a hardcore fan such as myself, I had already come to these conclusions, and consequently found myself saying, "I know all this, nothing is new, what did I learn from this?" Yeah, yeah, can't give away any top secret storyline or anything, but I wanted to see new info, something different. Now, to newer fans, or less involved viewers, this may have been an incredibly helpful lifesaver to the often confusing and interweaving plots. So there are two perspectives on this point. Bloopers. What can I say; I love them! It's great to see some mess ups to scenes we've seen many times and recognize them. Plus we actually get to see Mulder and Scully smiling and laughing. But, whoa, I was almost blown out of my chair when she started barking, err, laughing. But more! I want more! We saw most of these bloopers at conventions, TV appearances, or even download them from the 'Net. Let's have some new ones shall we? And a variety. Anyone who has ever read an article on GA knows how she has a tendency to giggle. How about some fifth season bloopers? Also, if they're going to devote nearly half of the commercial previews to the bloopers, is it not wrong to expect more than 2 minutes? Yes, there is a time limit on these shows, but cut out some of the summary interviews, and it would be fine, timewise. Never before seen scenes that ended up on the cutting room floor. These were wonderful to see, but why not show it in it's entirety? That would be fantastic. And, if only we could hear what the characters were saying, instead of another voiceover interview. And finally, the movie. I know that you can't show it all, and the clips were of course, a nice little bunch. Some hint of action. But I want more plot details! I don't care if they spent the whole 44 minutes showing sneak movie shots, I want to know just a little. I don't want a whole treatment on it, just maybe a few sentences. That's what I was looking for. So, of course, there were some bad and disappointing elements, but despite my criticism, it was rather enjoyable, and certainly better than another repeat I've seen several times.
