I don't know whether to love or hate this episode. It definitely had funny
moments, but that's all. No really good or original plot. It was merely laughs. Plain and
simple laughs. That was the whole point. And the point with which I strongly disagree
with. But, I must admit, it was funny to watch, and therefore somewhat enjoyable.
Mulder was at his very oddest. Never before has anything so weird been seen. Like "Jose
Chung's From Outer Space," we see varying points of view. Only this time it's Mulder's,
too. So that concept was not entirely original, but rather effective. But, of course, let's
start at the very beginning.
The teaser, although nothing very special in itself, was a decent introduction. We
see, from our point of view, the chase of Ronny first, before we see it through Mulder or
Scully's eyes.
Skipping ahead, I love how the different viewpoints are shown. Mulder's sheriff
has buck teeth and stupidity, while Scully's is a charming, crush-worthy sheriff. Scully
sees Mulder as a lunatic, with great, unnecessary enthusiasm. To himself, however,
Mulder
is perfectly sane and reasonable, with only a hint of zealousy. Mulder sees Scully as
whiny, uncooperative, and lovestruck. Scully believes she's working too hard for his
sake, without much reward, and blames Mulder for all the inconveniences. "I do it all for
you."
Then, at the end, a rather unmemorable ending, funny, but again, nothing too
special. I want a big showdown with Skinner. That would have been far better than any
other ending.
So, there were some good moments, and some bad. But I miss the scary episodes.
This season, and it's not even through yet, has had more comedic episodes, spoofs, and
hilarious scenes than all other seasons. Not combined, but more individually. I am a huge
fan of these episodes, and of Darin Morgan, but enough is enough. Mulder has, in recent
episodes, been reduced to comic relief and nothing more. When was the last time we saw
Mulder do something really smart and non-childish? At least 2 episodes too many.

Now, for a list of good and bad things.

Good Bad

Watch the camera angle While somewhat humorous, change from the first, Scully's autopsies really had "You really know your no necessity in the story besides stuff" to the second after discovering the choral..a.ol.whatever Mulder interrupts Scully. substance. Very nice. As Mulder and Scully Maybe it's just me, but Mulder's argue over the name of laugh on the vibrating bed scared me. the motel, the famous What's up with that? caption at the bottom also changes. The runaway RV. That was incredibly stupid. And Mulder Quick! Someone get a hanging on to it. I couldn't even screen capture of Mulder's laugh at that. Too unrealistic, even face when he first sees the for XF. sheriff! His lips curled in utter disgust and surprise. Is it me, the lighting, or true? Is I was laughing for so long, Scully's bright orange eyeshadow I originally missed the quip uneven? about buck teeth! Mulder singing the Shaft theme song. Good Lord, that has to be the funniest thing I have ever seen him do. Hence the background wav, for those with plugins. The absolutely adorable tie fix while waiting for Skinner. So cute. Mulder refuses to say he's drugged, but that's the first thing out of his mouth.
